CBD cortisol
Your body generates cortisol to regulate
When you do high-intensity workouts, your body produces more cortisol, a hormone that plays a variety of roles in the body such as regulating blood glucose levels and metabolism, control blood pressure, respond to stressful situations, fight various infections, and help with your physical health, such as help you lose weight.
When cortisol values in the blood are outside the normal limits for a healthy person, it may be indicative of a health disorder.
However, this hormone, which is produced in the adrenal glands, can suffer increased values while performing high-intensity physical workouts.
This is because your body interprets intense physical activity as a stressful situation.
This increase in cortisol levels may inhibit increased muscle mass; that is, it can affect the achievement of the results you expect after your training sessions.

How cortisol works
The adrenal glands produce cortisol during the day and help regulate various physiological functions such as metabolism; it also helps to keep blood glucose values within the limits considered normal.
It is also responsible for activating escape or fight responses when we are subjected to a stressful situation that our body can interpret as dangerous, especially when we are afraid of an event.
Cortisol and diseases
High levels of cortisol can induce states of depression and anxiety. They may also be indicating that something is not right in the body.
High or low cortisol concentration may be a warning sign for your doctor, who may recommend a deeper assessment of your health condition.
Problems such as hypertension, diabetes, certain types of cancer and mental disorders are reflected in high cortisol values.
As with the rest of the hormones, it is essential that your cortisol values are kept in balance so that your mind and body work well and you stay healthy.
How cortisol affects when you exercise
When you do high-intensity physical workouts, your body interprets it as a stressful situation and increases cortisol secretion.
Because it is a catabolic hormone, it slows tissue growth and decreases protein synthesis.
In other words, it produces an opposite effect to testosterone, growth hormone and insulin.
Anything that involves a lot of effort such as running at high speed and for a long time or lifting a lot of weight, the body processes it as a dangerous situation and causes more cortisol to occur.
This increase in the release of this hormone causes the results you want to get from exercise to be affected.
Physical training, CBD oil and cortisol
Among the multiple therapeutic properties of cannabidiol (CBD), it has been observed to act as a very effective anti-catabolic substance.
Thanks to the way it acts with the cannabinoid system, cannabidiol is able to control both physical and emotional stress. In this way, cannabidiol inhibits the excessive release of cortisol.
One thing to keep in mind is that while CBD is one of the many cannabinoids present in the marijuana or hemp plant, it also has other components such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) that can affect the effectiveness of CBD as it is a psychoactive substance.
For this reason it is very important that you use CBD oil obtained from hemp that has a very low percentage of THC so that you get all the benefits of cannabidiol so that you achieve the most effectiveness of your workouts.
Excessive cortisol production due to intense training can achieve the opposite effect of the one sought: it will make your fitness worse rather than improve.
Among the consequences you may suffer from a high concentration of cortisol that originates from physical activity, we can tell you that you could lose muscle mass, your bone density may decrease and your blood pressure would be above or below acceptable values.
If you decide to
consuming CBD as
a supplement, taking one dose before and another after your training session, your cortisol levels will stay within the accepted limits and you will achieve build muscle mass in addition to recover very quickly to be ready for the next day of hard physical exertion.
CBD and hormone balance
Hormones are responsible for regulating various aspects of our physiological functions.
These substances have various functions such as regulating behavior, sexual activity, growth, moods, our response to dangers, among many others.
Hormones are produced in the different glands of the endocrine system arranged in different areas of our body: the pineal gland, the thyroid, the pituitary or pituitary gland, and pancreas, the testes in men, ovaries in women and the hypothalamus.
Each of the glands is responsible for the production of certain hormones such as testosterone, insulin, cortisol, epinephrine or adrenaline, melatonin to name a few.
Each hormone is a “messenger” that gives specific instructions such as regulating blood glucose levels (insulin), waking and sleep hours (melatonin) or responding to a danger (adrenaline).
In the case of cortisol, it is responsible for responses to emotional states of stress or anxiety.
CBD and the endocrine system
Due to the natural action of aging or external factors, the levels of these “messengers” suffer alterations which results in different imbalances in our body.
The endocannabinoid system works in coordination with the endocrine system. For this reason, CBD is very effective at activating endocrine system receptors.
For this reason, it is effective in regulating sleep, managing stress or sexual activity by citing a few examples.
If you need to keep cortisol levels controlled either because you’re developing intense physical activity or because you need to regain your body’s overall balance, moderate use of Low doses of CBD oil will help you achieve that state of well-being and get the best results from your workouts.
