CBD and basketball
Athletes are subjected to a great deal of stress as a result of training regimens that push their bodies to the limit. Basketball is no exception, however, the relationship between CBD and basketball can lead to improved athletic performance.
We know that training promotes adaptability and endurance, but it also causes physical discomfort, which can lead to injury. Traditional pain management approaches are helpful, but may be detrimental to the health of some athletes.
Prescription pain relievers, such as Oxycontin, can put you at risk of becoming addicted to opioids if you take them frequently. Athletes who play sports with a lot of injuries, such as basketball, take a toll on their bodies by constantly playing, getting hurt, and seeking pain relief. This causes some of them to resort to abusing prescription drugs. CBD seems to be the most natural option for athletes to improve their health these days.

What you should know about CBD and basketball
There are many basketball training games that can cause injuries when you push your body to the max. Fortunately the use of CBD has begun to spread, even in professional leagues and even in other high-risk sports such as surfing. In fact, the Big3 League declared in 2018 that participants in their league would be allowed to consume CBD products. However, not all teams have made public the use of CBD products by their athletes.
In addition, CBD has been removed from the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) list of prohibited drugs since early 2018. The psychoactive cannabinoid THC, on the other hand, remains illegal. THC is not included in broad-spectrum CBD oil or isolated CBD-based products, which is why they are the most recommended to start with.
It is important to talk about the endocannabinoid system, which regulates the activity of our neurons, and which contains cannabinoids. As we’ve said before, CBD is derived from the cannabis plant and, unlike THC, it has no intoxicating properties (meaning it doesn’t get you high).
The endocannabinoid system consists of CB1 and CB2 receptors in the nervous system, through which cannabinoids bind to and suppress the release of certain neurotransmitters. Therefore, the consumption of CBD is a means to improve the function of the endocannabinoid system.
What are the benefits of using CBD in basketball?
Coaching basketball is a very popular activity among youth and adults. In fact, there are many basketball training drills that help you improve your game, but the risk of injury is always present. The good news is that CBD can help you if you are injured, as it offers multiple benefits to athletes.
CBD can relieve pain
The most common purpose of CBD use is to relieve musculoskeletal discomfort caused by intense exercise. At the same time, CBD can be used to relieve stiff joints. But that’s not all, because CBD is a potent anti-inflammatory, it can also reduce joint pain and tension.
Works as a safe alternative to opioids
In 2016, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that opioids such as morphine, codeine and Oxycontin were responsible for more than 42,000 deaths in the United States. These drugs are quite effective in controlling pain, but carry a high risk of addiction and overdose. While CBD is not as effective as opioid painkillers, it is by far safer.
Avoid overuse of anti-inflammatory drugs.
Drugs such as ibuprofen and naproxen sodium are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. They may not be safe, even if they are supposed to be safe in sufficient doses. However, they can put you at risk for kidney damage, heart attacks, and heart problems.
Some athletes have reported that CBD is more effective than non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in terms of pain reduction. Not to mention that they have fewer adverse effects.
You can use it to treat pain and inflammation.
Another aspect in which CBD and basketball are related has to do with its potential to reduce pain and inflammation. This is because CBD binds to CB2 receptors and reduces the production of cytokines, resulting in an anti-inflammatory action. Cytokines are proteins that create an inflammatory response in your body. Reduce inflammation in the intestine
Intestinal inflammation is extremely common among endurance athletes, including those who play basketball for training. While CBD doesn’t completely address the problem, it does help alleviate the underlying inflammation. CB1 and CB2 receptors in the colon are activated by CBD.
Improves sleep quality
We all know the importance of getting a good night’s sleep, as doing so improves our daily performance. In addition, better quality sleep is the most effective way to stay healthy and improve your workout results. Because CBD reduces adenosine levels, athletes who use it sleep better.
Promotes muscle recovery
If you play basketball, you’re likely to have sore muscles as a result of putting extra stress on your muscles during training. CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, which aids in the reduction of inflammation and muscle recovery after exercise. When inflammation is reduced, muscles can recover faster.
Can I use CBD in basketball games for training?
Actually you can do it without any problem. In fact, many athletes already use CBD products, such as oils and drinks, as long as they do not include THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis.
However, it is worth noting that some drug tests cannot differentiate between different cannabinoids. So, if you’re a professional basketball player, it’s preferable to stick to broad-spectrum medications and topicals, but there’s still the possibility of a false positive drug test.
In case you are an athlete who plays basketball for fun, CBD can be your best ally in dealing with injuries.
