Can CBD help with type 2 diabetes?
Thanks to the fact that cannabidiol CBD offers many health benefits, many are now wondering if CBD can help with type 2 diabetes. As we know, CBD oil is made by extracting cannabidiol from the cannabis plant. It is then diluted with a “carrier oil” such as coconut or hemp seed oil.
CBD is one of the many chemical compounds found in cannabis known as cannabinoids. These cannabinoids bind to receptors in the brain to produce specific effects.

What is type 2 diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes is a serious condition in which the insulin in the pancreas does not work properly or does not produce enough insulin. This indicates that blood glucose levels continue to rise.
Insulin is necessary for our survival. It serves an important purpose by allowing blood glucose to enter our cells and provide energy to our bodies.
Your body also breaks down carbohydrates from food and drinks and converts them into glucose if you have type 2 diabetes. The pancreas then releases insulin in response to this. However, because this insulin cannot work properly, blood sugar levels continue to rise. As a result, more insulin is released.
Some people with type 2 diabetes may eventually “tire out” their pancreas, causing their bodies to produce less and less insulin. This will cause your blood sugar levels to rise even higher, increasing your risk of hyperglycemia.
Can type 2 diabetes be treated with CBD?
Unfortunately, there are not enough human clinical studies on the direct effect of CBD on blood sugar. What is known so far is that the body’s endocannabinoid system plays an important role in regulating energy metabolism.
This is important for people with diabetes. Research on insulin sensitivity suggests that the endocannabinoid system determines the sensitivity of the insulin response in adipocytes. In other words, the endocannabinoid system is important in howour body responds to insulin, either by increasing or decreasing sensitivity to insulin.
For obvious reasons it is of great relevance to those taking insulin, as it could mean that your blood sugar levels can drop or rise suddenly, making it difficult to control. In fact, there are people who have reported completely different reactions to CBD use.
In some cases, CBD drastically reduced blood sugar levels in just a few minutes, which is not good for your health. There are also those who have shown no effect on their blood sugar levels.
These different responses to the use of CBD to treat diabetes are related to the uniqueness of each person’s endocannabinoid system. In any case, if you are unsure how to use CBD oil safely, it is best to seek the help of a cannabis specialist for advice on the most appropriate dosage.
It is also important to note that if CBD is used to treat type 2 diabetes, it should never be combined with refined sugar or artificial flavourings.
Herbs to lower blood sugar
In addition to cannabidiol CBD extracted from cannabis, there are other herbs to lower blood sugar. Among the most outstanding are the following:
Fenugreek
Fenugreek seeds are rich in soluble fiber, which lowers blood sugar levels by reducing digestion and absorption of carbohydrates. As a result, it has been proposed that these seeds may be useful in the treatment of diabetes.
In addition, fenugreek seeds have been shown in several clinical trials to improve metabolic symptoms associated with type 1 and type 2 diabetes by lowering blood sugar levels.
Gymnema
The herb Gymnema contains compounds that inhibit the absorption of sugar in the intestine, although the precise mechanism is unknown. One or more mechanisms may be involved.
Gymnema has also been shown to increase the amount of insulin in the body and the growth of cells in the pancreas, which is where insulin is produced. Insulin regulates blood sugar levels by telling the liver, muscle cells, and fat cells to take sugar from the bloodstream.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon is commonly used in cooking and baking, but it is also associated with a reduction in diabetic symptoms. Cinnamon has been shown in studies to improve blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity.
Two-month consumption of 500 mg of cinnamon in water extract decreased fasting insulin, glucose, total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. It also improved insulin sensitivity in men and women with high blood sugar levels, according to this Chinese research.
Ginseng
The Ginseng plant is a well known and commonly used herbal medicine in the world. It has been used in traditional oriental medicine for thousands of years to increase energy, relieve stress and restore balance to the body. However, it has recently been investigated as a treatment for blood sugar control.
Optimal fasting blood sugar levels and improved insulin resistance are among the benefits of using Ginseng as part of a therapy program for people with type 2 diabetes. This is according to research from 2016. Ginseng use also improved triglycerides, total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, according to the same research.
Turmeric
Turmeric is a yellowish spice commonly used in Asian dishes and curries. It also has many medicinal qualities, as curcumin, the active component of turmeric, is believed to be responsible for many health benefits, including blood sugar control.
