Can CBD help you quit smoking?
One thing we want to make clear is that we are not suggesting that you should smoke marijuana, instead of smoking cigarettes. This topic is about cannabidiol CBD smoking cessation, as a possible alternative for those who have an addiction to cigarettes. So, the question arises: Can CBD help you quit smoking?
On the one hand it should be noted that CBD does not “get you high”, unlike THC, which is the main compound found in most commercially produced cannabis plants.
We know that it is a secondary cannabinoid derived from CBD-rich cannabis plants or hemp. That is, cannabis plants with less than 0.2% THC content. It is held responsible for all the health benefits of marijuana, but none of the mind-altering or weight-altering effects.
In addition, CBD oil has a wide range of health benefits that research is learning more and more about. One of these potential benefits is to break nicotine addiction.

What are the health risks of smoking?
It goes without saying that smoking is bad for your health. However, it is always good to remember the risks of this bad habit. For starters, smoking increases your chances of getting several types of cancer, particularly oral, esophageal, and lung cancers several times over.
And that’s not all, it also causes permanent damage to the lungs, which increases the risk of developing harmful diseases such as pneumonia or chronic bronchitis. Smoking even damages the cardiovascular system and increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. In addition, both erectile dysfunction and infertility have also been linked to smoking.
Apart from the biochemical effects of smoking, smoke inhalation, which is generated by the combustion of solid matter, is harmful to the body. This is because our lungs are not designed to withstand that heat.
The temperature at which a cigarette is inhaled produces a stressful atmosphere for all the organs through which the smoke passes, including the mouth, esophagus and lungs. These organs can experience permanent cumulative damage over time, which is why smoking has been linked to an increased risk of developing chronic health problems.
CBD Quit Smoking: Using CBD to Treat Smoking
One of the reasons why CBD is recommended for smoking cessation is that this cannabidiol is considered an emerging natural treatment option that has almost no side effects.
In addition, CBD’s ability to disrupt addictive behaviour in general has already been demonstrated in several studies. However, one significant study focused specifically on smoking. The findings revealed that after one week of CBD treatment, the amount of cigarettes smoked was reduced by about 40%.
In this research, 24 smokers divided into two groups participated. One group received CBD oil-infused inhalers, while the other group received placebo inhalers. For a total of seven days, both groups were told to use the inhalers if they felt the urge to smoke.
The research revealed that while the placebo group smoked the same amount of cigarettes as the control group, the group using CBD oil smoked 40% fewer cigarettes on average.
Anti-anxiolytic effect of CBD replaces the effect of nicotine
One of the study’s authors, Dr. Morgan, concluded that the use of CBD cannabidiol could mean that the good memories of smoking are progressively forgotten. This basically means that a new relationship is created between the craving, the physical movements associated with smoking, replaced with the inhaler, and the healing effects of CBD, which replace the addictive effects of nicotine.
Simply replacing the act of smoking with inhaling CBD oil seems to reduce nicotine cravings. At the same time it makes cigarettes seem at least extremely unpleasant.
From a psychological point of view, it is a great advantage for people who want to use CBD oil to quit smoking because the physiological pattern is very strong in smokers. In addition, it is known that this pattern is especially related to how they feel in stressful or social circumstances.
Dr. Morgan, on the other hand, says it’s difficult to make an accurate comparison with other treatments based on the research findings alone. This is because 40% was a higher percentage than expected.
As a result, it is difficult to compare it to other smoking cessation treatments because what was done was not to ask people to stop smoking; instead, they were asked to consider using the inhaler every time they wanted to smoke a cigarette.
Although a variety of therapies for addiction exist, researchers are still looking for more successful, natural alternatives. Dr. Morgan’s study, as well as some other recent research, suggests that a single nighttime dose of CBD will minimize cigarette cravings in smokers the next morning.
How can CBD help to quit smoking?
Cannabidiol CBD is a parasympathetic nervous system stimulant, responsible for facilitating rest, recovery, rejuvenation and regeneration. It also acts as an inhibitor of the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for triggering stress responses and activating the fight or flight mechanism.
Its calming properties are used to treat anxiety, depression, pain and general stress. All of these conditions are related to smoking, so addressing them will help smokers use CBD oil to quit more effectively.
Quit smoking using CBD oil
Despite this, it is worth noting that the therapeutic impact of CBD is still in its early stages. That is, we do not yet fully understand its addiction-breaking activity at the neurochemical level.
Nevertheless, there are several promising anecdotal experiences. People using CBD oil to quit smoking cigarettes and THC-rich cannabis seem to be having positive results
