Hemp liquor

There are many important things about hemp liqueur that you should know, beyond how to prepare it. Therefore, in this article we will explain what marijuana liquor is, what its effects are, and whether its consumption is legal.

You should note that in addition to cannabidiol CBD, hemp also contains the psychoactive element Tetrahydrocannabinol, better known as THC, which is still illegal in many countries.

What is hemp liquor?

Hemp liquor is an alcoholic beverage obtained through the process of maceration or distillation of the cannabis plant. As mentioned above, Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the main psychoactive component in cannabis plants, is present in marijuana-infused beverages. As a result, a cannabis liquor is not the same as a drink with CBD.

It is worth mentioning that for some years now, cannabis-infused beverages have been available in several countries around the world. Moreover, with each passing day, its attractiveness increases considerably.

A distinctive feature of liquor with cannabis extract is that it may also contain caffeine. Artet®, Keef®, and Cann®, are just a few commercial brands of marijuana liquor already circulating in the market.

As for its preparation, hemp liquor can be obtained by distillation or maceration. In the first case, the aroma of marijuana is obtained by distilling it in the still and then adding sugar.

Maceration involves mixing marijuana with neutral alcohol in order to obtain an infusion.

How much THC is present in marijuana liquor?

The concentration of THC in hemp liquor varies according to the amounts of marijuana used, and therefore there is no set dosage. While some cannabis-infused beverages are promoted as “low dose” with 2 to 4 mg of THC, others have higher doses of THC.

In addition, the maximum allowable content of a “low dose” product is not standardized. In each 250 ml bottle, certain cannabis-infused beverages can include between 100 and 200 milligrams of THC.

Therefore, it is crucial to pay attention to the concentration of the product, as well as how much and how fast you drink it. That is, if you consume a marijuana liquor high in THC, you will most likely experience psychoactive effects.

Effects of drinking liquor made from hemp

Many people wonder if marijuana liquor gets you high. In this regard, you should know that liqueurs made from hemp can produce drowsiness, relaxation, euphoria and other signs of cannabis intoxication as they contain the psychoactive chemical THC.

And as we have said before, the amount of THC in various types of cannabis-infused beverages is different. Consequently, the effects and symptoms may vary from person to person depending on what has been ingested.

More negative effects can be caused by the addition of other components such as alcohol and caffeine. That is why if you have symptoms or adverse side effects after drinking liquor made from marijuana, you should see a doctor immediately.

Because liquids are absorbed by the body more quickly than solids, cannabis liquors can accelerate the onset of effects compared to consuming traditional marijuana edibles such as cookies and brownies.

In fact, the effects of drinking cannabis liquor can begin to manifest themselves between 30 minutes and several hours after consuming this type of beverage.

Is it safe to drink cannabis liquor?

Most cannabis products are not regulated by the health authorities in each country. Non-prescription marijuana products are also not regulated.

Scientific studies have not adequately defined the long-term health consequences of drinking hemp liquor. Therefore, the quality and safety of cannabis-infused beverages may differ among manufacturers.

As mentioned above, liquors containing marijuana may cause unexpected, or undesirable, symptoms, especially if they are also combined with other substances such as alcohol.

These products are intended for adult consumption only. The use of marijuana liquor by young people can seriously affect their health, requiring hospitalization.

Some beverages made with cannabis, such as certain root beers, have similar names or packaging to other products that do not include cannabis.

People who drink too much, or too fast, may misinterpret one product for another and, as a result, suffer negative side effects.

Are hemp liqueurs healthier than alcohol?

Many producers of liqueurs containing hemp claim that their products are “light” and provide “a different kind of high”. Cannabis-infused drinks are also said to supposedly have fewer calories and don’t give you a hangover like alcoholic beverages.

Some even dare to show them as healthy alternatives to alcohol. However, there is no evidence that marijuana-infused cocktails are healthier than alcoholic beverages. Pesticides, heavy metals and other undesirable contaminants may be present in cannabis plants and extracts.

In addition, we know that to improve the taste of liquors made from cannabis, sugar is often added. However, you should be aware that cannabis use has been linked to impaired brain activity, impaired learning ability, and the onset of anxiety, depression and schizophrenia.

Worst of all, cannabis can also be addictive, with 9% of users developing a dependency. In other words, if you want to drink hemp liquor in a safe and healthy way, make sure the THC levels are minimal.

In any case, the ideal is to opt for a marijuana liqueur with CBD, which, as we know, offers many more health benefits.
