O hipot\u00e1lamo \u00e9 uma parte do c\u00e9rebro respons\u00e1vel pela produ\u00e7\u00e3o hormonal e pela manuten\u00e7\u00e3o da homeostase, ou seja, o estado normal do corpo. Temperatura, sede, apetite, humor, desejo sexual e sono s\u00e3o regulados por horm\u00f4nios hipotal\u00e2micos. O hipot\u00e1lamo tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel pela distribui\u00e7\u00e3o de horm\u00f4nios para o resto do corpo.<\/p>\n<p>Uma destas hormonas reguladas pelo hipot\u00e1lamo \u00e9 a j\u00e1 referida melatonina. Esta hormona \u00e9 libertada em resposta \u00e0 exposi\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 luz. Quando escurece \u00e0 noite, os seus olhos enviam um sinal ao seu hipot\u00e1lamo, que por sua vez diz ao seu corpo para libertar melatonina.
