What is inflammation?
Inflammation is a natural response of the body to any “foreign invading” organism. Basically anything from bacteria to a thorn, a chemical or a broken bone could cause inflammation. The body’s general response is inflammation, which occurs almost immediately. Our dogs, like people, cats, and other mammals, have the same response at the cellular level.
Redness, heat, swelling, pain and loss of function are some characteristics of inflammation in dogs. On the one hand, the increased blood flow to the affected region causes redness and heat. Meanwhile, fluid accumulation causes swelling.
Inflammation is painful due to a multitude of circumstances, including chemicals in the body. The first four characteristics combine to cause a loss or impairment of function, such as lameness.
In dogs, inflammation is common, and while the process is the same throughout the body, we call it by different names depending on where it occurs and the degree of loss of function it causes.
Where does inflammation occur in dogs?
The following are the most common areas where inflammation occurs in dogs.
Leather and fabrics
Dermatitis (skin inflammation) and ear irritation (otitis) are common in dogs with allergies. In addition, inflammation often leads to secondary bacterial or fungal infections, which require treatment with antibiotics. When inflamed, each biological tissue takes on a different appearance.
Most pet owners, for example, are aware of the swelling associated with conjunctivitis, an infection of the tissue surrounding the eye.
In the particular case of osteoarthritis it is significantly more frequent in our pets. It is caused by the accumulation of minor joint damage over time. It is also considered a form of long-term inflammation, which helps explain why arthritis in dogs is so serious.
Symptoms of inflammation in dogs
Before using an anti-inflammatory cream for dogs, it is first important to identify the symptoms of inflammation in our pets. In addition, we must bear in mind that inflammation in dogs manifests itself differently depending on the organ or tissue affected. Inflammation in the skin causes redness, warmth to the touch, and swelling.
The inflammation may also appear as a thickening of the skin, a rash, or hives over an entire region. A dog’s ears show comparable signs of inflammation, but also emit a foul odor. When you touch an inflamed region, your dog may wince from the pain.
On the other hand, inflammation of the muscles and joints may be less visible until your dog starts to move. When the problem is in a leg, dogs limp because the swelling is painful. If the swelling is in your back, you may not be able to stand.
In addition, the discomfort of inflammation in any region can make a dog feel drowsy. It also makes you lose interest in the game, and you may even stop eating. The dog is also likely to experience vomiting and diarrhea.
Anti-inflammatory cream for dogs
Currently, anti-inflammatory cream for dogs is one of the most effective treatments for inflammation in dogs. The new Higea CBD creams, for example, can be used to combat inflammation in the muscles and joints of dogs.
In addition, they are completely safeanti-inflammatory CBD creams, made from natural and botanical ingredients. Once applied to the affected area, they relieve stiffness in both the body and joints of the dog. And because they contain menthol and camphor, they generate an intense, penetrating heat, which relieves muscle pain.
Another aspect to note is that these CBD-enriched anti-inflammatory creams for dogs are formulated to absorb into the skin instantly. Once this is done, they generate a regenerative heat, promoting recovery and relieving pain.
Benefits of anti-inflammatory CBD creams
The reason cannabidiol CBD is used in anti-inflammatory dog cream is precisely because of its anti-inflammatory properties. In fact, after just four weeks, research in dogs revealed a decrease in arthritis pain and increased activity in dogs given CBD. Importantly, none of the dogs in the trial experienced any negative side effects.
As mentioned elsewhere, CBD is a synthetic version of endocannabinoids, chemicals produced by the body to help relieve inflammation. And that’s not all, CBD can provide the added benefit of reducing the pain and anxiety that often accompanies suffering in dogs. Even an anti-inflammatory cream for dogs can slow the progression of inflammation.
Despite the above, any anti-inflammatory dog cream, ointment or topical lotion should be used with care because your dog is likely to lick it off. In addition, the veterinarian must validate the anti-inflammatory CBD cream as suitable for pets.
